(Optional)  1 Pretend phone  per learner

Supporting Media:

Prep:

  • Gather Materials.
  • Print a Totetude Phone Printable (optional).
  • Print a Totetude Personal Information Printable and complete information (optional).

Instructions:

  1. Educator reviews fire safety rules. 
  • Stay away from matches and fire!
  • Make an escape plan in case of a fire.
  • Practice the escape.
  • Get out FAST!
  • Feel a door before you open it.
  • Stay low to the floor.
  • Call 9-1-1 from a neighbour's house.
  • Never go back into a house on fire.
  • If you are on fire, STOP! DROP! ROLL!  
      2.  Educator expresses the importance of leaving the house before calling 9-1-1 in case of a fire.
      3.  Educator expresses the importance of only calling 9-1-1 during an emergency.  Discuss a list of    
            emergencies that you should call 9-1-1.  (Examples: Fire, someone stops breathing, someone 
            needs an ambulance, lost, etc.)
      4.  Educator demonstrates picking up a phone and pressing 9-1-1.  "Hello, my name is 
            ________________.  My house is on fire.  I live at _______________________________.
      5.  Each learner practices calling 9-1-1 and stating their home address.

Extension:

  • Learners practice going to a safe location before calling 9-1-1.

Reflections:

  • I am able to remember the emergency number 9-1-1.
  • I am able to memorize my phone number.
  • I am able to use a pretend phone to dial my home phone number/9-1-1.
